About Intergroup – What is Intergroup?
Intergroup is a local service office dedicated to helping newcomers who are seeking Alcoholics Anonymous. We provide AA speakers and meetings for local treatment centers. We have a robust Cooperating with the Professionals Community (CPC) program where we provide information on AA to those working in the alcoholism field. We engage in correspondence service by sending letters to AA members who are incarcerated or otherwise separated from their home groups. We organize and present a yearly AA Convention to increase unity and fellowship within the Central Minnesota AA community.
How is it operated?
We are an A.A. service entity located in Central MN. We service an approximate 50 mile radius from St. Cloud. We reach south to Elk River and north to Brainerd. We reach west to Alexandria and east to Cambridge. If you or your group would like to know more about SCI, please attend our monthly meeting held on the second Monday of the month.
What services are provided by Intergroup?
• Phones answered 24 hours a day
• Maintains online A.A. Meeting Directory
• 12-Step calls
• A.A. Orientation Meetings
• SCI monthly newsletter
• Public information
• Publication of Meeting Directories
• Cooperation with Outside Agencies
Who pays for it?
A.A. Group contributions and A.A. members’ personal contributions.
Does my group have a voice in its affairs?
Each A.A. Group in Central Minnesota is encouraged to have a Intergroup Representative. SCI representatives (SCIRs) shall participate in the affairs of SCI and keep their home groups informed about SCI and local service opportunities in Central Minnesota.
My Home Group already has a GSR. Do we still need an Intergroup Representative?
Yes, the Intergroup Representative communicates to the group the many service opportunities that exist to carry the message. The GSR serves their General Service District and General Service Area Assembly carrying their group’s voice to the annual General Service Conference.
We have our own meeting place. Why do we need Intergroup’s help?
Intergroup staff help newcomers find your meeting location. Your Intergroup Service Office phone line is the permanent connection to all A.A. Groups in the Central Minnesota area.
How can my A.A. group be of service?
You can start by seeing that your group has a voice at the monthly Intergroup Reps meeting, helping your fellow members know about the many service opportunities that exist to carry the message. Ensure that your group treasurer fulfills the group’s primary purpose by contributing to St. Cloud Intergroup on a regular basis. No matter how small, every contribution helps.
What are some ways I can be of service to Intergroup?
There are several ways to get involved, including helping Intergroup bring A.A. meetings into treatment facilities in Central Minnesota, assisting with the St. Cloud A.A. Convention in September, attending our monthly Intergroup Rep meeting on the 2nd Monday of the month and volunteering to be on our 12-Step calls list.
